Z Home Care's hourly rate
Z Home Care's standard rate is $32 per hour. That rate covers non-clinical support: companionship, personal care, homemaking, meal preparation, errands, accompaniment, respite for a family caregiver, and non-medical support after a hospital stay. Tax is added where it applies, and the applicable tax treatment is confirmed in writing before your first invoice.
The three-hour minimum
The standard minimum booking is three hours. A three-hour visit at the standard rate is $96 before any applicable tax. The minimum exists for a practical reason: caregivers travel across St. John's and the Northeast Avalon, and a stable three-hour block lets them do meaningful work rather than rush through a checklist.
Three hours is also, in our experience, the point at which a visit becomes genuinely useful. A caregiver can help with a shower, put a load of laundry through, prepare a proper meal, sit and talk, and leave the home in better shape than they found it.
What a weekly budget actually looks like
Rather than quoting a monthly package, it helps to think in visits. Below are examples at the standard rate, before any applicable tax.

Most families we meet start smaller than they expect. Two visits a week is a common starting point — enough to steady the household routine and give a family caregiver a predictable break — and hours are added later if needs change.
Are evenings and weekends more expensive?
The published standard rate is the same for regular evening and weekend visits. What changes is availability: popular time slots fill first, so a Saturday morning visit needs to be confirmed for the specific date and time you want.
Is the assessment free?
Yes. The initial assessment is free and creates no obligation to purchase services. A coordinator visits the home, listens to the client and family, looks at the practical realities of the space, and builds a care plan around what is actually needed. If we are not the right fit — if the need is clinical, for example — we say so plainly.
What is not included
Z Home Care is a non-clinical provider. Our rate does not cover nursing procedures, injections, wound care, catheter care, IV care, medical treatment or medication administration. Those services must come from an appropriately qualified healthcare provider. We provide medication reminders under an agreed care plan, but we do not make clinical medication decisions.
Contracts and changing your mind
Z Home Care does not require families to commit to a long-term care package. Services can be adjusted or ended according to the notice and cancellation terms in the signed service agreement. Families can add hours during a difficult stretch and scale back once things settle.
Private care alongside publicly funded support
Some families purchase private hours on top of publicly arranged support — for example, adding an evening companionship visit that the public system does not cover. Privately purchased hours stay separate and clearly documented. Z Home Care does not determine government eligibility or financial contributions; those questions belong with NL Health Services.
