What a companion does at a service

Z Home Care may provide respectful companionship and general non-clinical support while an adult or senior attends a funeral, memorial, religious service, family occasion or similar event. In practice that usually means:

• Arriving early to help the person get ready without rushing.
• Steady physical presence — an arm to hold on stairs, a seat located before the room fills.
• Managing coats, a walker, a cane, a handbag, an umbrella.
• Knowing where the washroom is and how to get there discreetly.
• Watching for fatigue and offering a quiet exit before the person is overwhelmed.
• Sitting with them afterwards, at the reception or back at home, so the day does not end abruptly in an empty house.

What a companion is not

Companionship provides a supportive presence, social interaction and general safety awareness. It is not a security-guard service, a medical-monitoring service or an emergency-supervision service. Caregivers do not provide nursing care of any kind. If the person's needs during the day would be clinical, that has to be arranged with an appropriate healthcare provider.

Arranging it

Funerals are rarely planned far in advance, so families often call with only a day or two of notice. We review these requests promptly, but a particular date, time or caregiver cannot be guaranteed until arrangements are confirmed. The earlier you call, the better the odds.

Before the day, we confirm the details that actually determine whether it goes smoothly: the exact responsibilities, mobility needs, how long the person expects to stay, whether there are stairs, and transportation arrangements. Transportation availability depends on the agreed service arrangement, insurance requirements, vehicle availability, caregiver suitability and Z Home Care's transportation policy. In some cases the family drives while the caregiver accompanies the person.

The minimum booking

One-time companionship is subject to the standard three-hour minimum and the standard $32 hourly rate, tax where applicable. For a service, three hours is usually about right anyway: getting ready, attending, and settling back at home.

Cultural and religious preferences

Clients and families are encouraged to explain cultural, religious, language and personal preferences that affect comfort or service delivery. We consider those preferences respectfully while maintaining lawful staffing practices and confirming caregiver availability. A specific caregiver assignment cannot be guaranteed, but the conversation is always welcome.

Beyond funerals

The same support works for weddings, anniversaries, graduations, regular Sunday service, a family dinner across town, or a visit to a friend in hospital. Anything within the client's care plan and Z Home Care's approved non-clinical scope can be considered.
